Training of Trainers on Safe Abortion Implemented in Kyrgyzstan

On October 5-7, 2021, a training of trainers on safe abortion for educational professionals was organized in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan by the Kyrgyz Family Planning Alliance (KFPA) in partnership with the Regional Training Center (RTC) and the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic. The training was facilitated by Rodica Comendant, RTC Director, Ainora Dovletov, and Baktygul Bozgorpoeva, KFPA Director. As a result of the training, 22 educational professionals improved their knowledge and skills related to the provision of manual vacuum aspiration and medical abortion and are now better equipped to transmit these skills to their students.

This training represents an important component in the implementation of the National Clinical Protocol for Safe Abortion of the Kyrgyz Republic, approved by the Ministry of Health on September 20, 2020 via Order No. 759. Leading up to the training, KFPA, in partnership with the Concept Foundation, revised the educational modules on safe abortion, which were in turn closely utilized throughout the training and will serve as an important reference for professionals training future abortion providers.

The revision of the National Clinical Protocol for Safe Abortion in Kyrgyzstan and the organization of the training of trainers has been supported by the Safe Abortion Action Fund as part of the RTC-coordinated project “Bringing the WHO recommendations on safe abortion closer to women, in countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, by supporting the development of national clinical guidelines and protocols on unwanted pregnancy.”
