Training of Trainers on Safe Abortion Carried Out in Uzbekistan

On December 1-3, 2021, a training of trainers on safe abortion for educational professionals was organized in Tashkent, Uzbekistan by the Women’s Wellness Center in Tashkent in partnership with the Regional Training Center (RTC) and DKT WomanCare Global. The training was facilitated by Rodica Comendant, RTC Director, and Dilfuza Kurbanbekova, Deputy Director of the Women’s Wellness Center in Tashkent. As a result of the training, 25 educational professionals improved their knowledge and skills related to the provision of manual vacuum aspiration and medical abortion and are now better equipped to transmit these skills to their students.

This training represents an important component in the implementation of the National Clinical Protocol for Safe Abortion of Uzbekistan, approved by the Ministry of Health via Order No. 3274 on June 30, 2020. Leading up to the training, the Women’s Wellness Center, in partnership with the Concept Foundation, revised the educational modules on safe abortion, which were in turn closely utilize throughout the training and will serve as an important reference for professionals training future abortion providers.

The organization of the training of trainers was supported by the Safe Abortion Action Fund as part of the RTC-coordinated project “Bringing the WHO recommendations on safe abortion closer to women, in countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, by supporting the development of national clinical guidelines and protocols on unwanted pregnancy.”
